Back in April, we took a half-day trip into Annapolis, the capital of Maryland. Our goal was to explore the quaint and historic downtown area and tour the state house building- the oldest in the nation "still in legislative use" and where George Washington resigned as commander of the army in 1783.
First up was exploring downtown. It is relatively small and easily done. This is worth it for the architecture alone, though the food was also amazing (best burger I've had in my life, I think).
Next up was the state house. Part of it is historically preserved; the other is active with the state senate and house of representatives. We got to sit in a session- in the peanut gallery- and observe the legislative process in action. The day we were there, we saw the Governor leaving to attend the Baltimore Orioles opening day.
Then it was back to the car, past more historic buildings and streets.
