Noordwijk aan Zee

After a morning at Keukenhof, we went to nearby Noordwijk, a nice little beach town on the North Sea.  According to the locals, this is the beach Dutch people use (implying that the others in the vicinity are more for tourists).

Noordwijk has two WWII museums; we visited the one that was open, about the Dutch who risked their lives to get to England after the Netherlands were occupied by the Nazis.  It was a small museum that was interesting but overpriced.  The other- about the Atlantic Wall (a series of bunkers the Nazis had guarding the coast against invasion)- looked more interesting, but had severely limited hours (once a week, if I recall).

After visiting the one, we headed to the beach.  The kids waded into the North Sea, then spent the rest of the day caked in sand.

Afterwards, we walked a few hundred  yards and gazed longingly at the other (closed) museum.

Noordwijk seemed like a nice little town.  If you're in the area and long for the beach, check it out.
