No trip to Garmisch would be complete without a gondola ride. The cable cars are plentiful, each with its own views and activities at the top. The Wankbahn is a longer ride and brings you to the summit of Wank, lower than many in the area (see top right for its route). At the top, there are many hiking paths suitable for families, and on a clear day, it offers spectacular views of Garmisch and the surrounding mountains. So let's ride up.
At the top, the kids enjoyed an Alpine playground, followed by hikes of several loops. The temperature was perfect, though clouds and haze diminished the view. It was still amazing.
Time to head back down.
Later that day, we'd take another cable car: up the Zugspitze. See next post for more.
