When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit

On the plane ride back to America yesterday, I watched two full movies. First up: When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, the movie adaptation of the book I read last year. The movie was in German but the English subtitles were easy enough to follow.

The movie follows the book rather closely, following Anna and her family as they leave Germany in 1933 as the Nazis come to power. They flee to Switzerland, then France, and finally the UK as her father looks for work (he's a Jewish writer with strong anti-Nazi sentiments).

I much prefer the book. The movie was a straightforward and faithful account, but largely lacked suspense or drama. In short, it just wasn't very compelling. I liked it okay, but felt it could have been better.

Rating: B-
