Also set immediately after A New Hope, Vader follows the dark lord as he atones for his mistakes in defending the Death Star. The Emperor has sent him, under General Tagge's command, on missions throughout the galaxy to locate and negotiate with suppliers for the Empire. But on the side, Vader continues his quest to locate the young pilot who destroyed the dread battle station, and builds a private army to carry out missions outside the Emperor's purview. Its first mission reveals to Vader just how dispensable he is to the Emperor- and teaches him a lesson he'll never forget.
Of the Disney canon, this is the best I've read so far. Collecting six comic issues, the first is the best; the others fall off, but are still better than other offerings. The art and story are tighter, characters more true to movie representation, and at least the story arc progresses a bit, as Vader learns information of great importance. This links with another recent Star Wars release (reviewed here), which is also cool. Maybe there's hope for Disney.
