Luxembourg: Luxembourg City

Our final stop in Luxembourg was a short visit to the capital city.  It's a really interesting place, with a unique layout: some city sections are hundreds of feed higher than the surrounding area. I saw one sign that called it "the Gibraltar of the North," and mentioned its fortress nature being the envy of Europe.  I can see why.

We first ducked into the cathedral.  It was pretty.

We then strolled by what I think was parliament, and a pretty square, on our way to the main attraction of the day.

Ahh, the Bock Casemates.  Very nice views from the top of this structure, which shows the upper and lower cities, remnants of the town wall, and can house tens of thousands in time of crisis.  Unfortunately, we didn't get a chance to take the 40-minute tour (which is not for the claustrophobic, I'm told); the kids were at the end of their rope from the prior day's adventures, and my wife was feeling sick.  So we enjoyed the view and returned to our car, ready to go home.

Luxembourg City is worth a visit.  Maybe not a full day, but a half day at least.
