Burg Hohenbaden & Ravennaschlucht

Day 1: Stops in orange, drives in magenta

We just returned from a short trip to the Schwarzwald (Black Forest) and Alsace. This post recaps day one.

Burg Hohenbaden

On the drive down to our BnB, we stopped at Burg Hohenbaden for a picnic lunch and ruin exploration. Just north of Baden-Baden, it was a nice pit stop. The castle is half-ruined, half-restaurant and event center (it looked like they were preparing for a wedding). There looked to be some nice hikes behind the castle, through interesting rock formations, but we had a lot of driving left in our day, so on we went. Ruin & parking were free.

Freiburg, Titisee, and Ravennaschlucht

On to the Schwarzwald. We drove past our BnB (in Lahr) to points south. We drove through Freiburg (nice university town) and to Titisee-Neustadt (which looked nice but was crowded, so we enjoyed the lake views and turned around). We ended up doing a hike in the Ravennaschlucht- Ravenna Gorge- and quite enjoyed the scenery. The kids liked the bridges the most.

Lahr

After the hike, we drove back north to Lahr to our BnB. It was a lot of driving overall- Black Forest roads seldom allow speed- but it was a nice tour.
