Netherlands

Places visited/reviewed in the Netherlands
Tulips, canals, bicycles, and funny-looking words- this, to me, is the Netherlands in a nutshell.  We visited the country on 4 occasions (4/08, 6/09, 2/11, and 5/11). Below is a summary.

Naarden

One of the best-preserved Medieval fortress towns, Naarden looks amazing from above (check out some images here), but what you get on the ground is a pleasant town with pretty scenery.

Amsterdam

There's lots to do in this, the most popular town in the Netherlands.  Canals, museums, the Anne Frank house, more canals- not to mention the more seedy things like the red light district and legal marijuana- mean you'll have fun regardless of your interests (or morals).

Keukenhof

Visit in April, when this magnificent garden is in full bloom.  Of course, when it's at its peak, everyone else is visiting, too, so be prepared for lines to get in.

Delft

Known for pottery and some canals, this quaint town is a nice day trip.

Kinderdijk

Windmills.

Maastricht

This town is a great place to stop if you're in Belgium, driving to Germany, and want to say you stopped in the Netherlands on the way.  Located in the extreme southeast of the country, I seem to recall a treaty or two was signed here or something . . .

Conclusion

Like all low countries, Netherlands has a charm that's worth experiencing.

UPDATE: We took another trip here in 2019, as captured in the following posts:
Amsterdam
Noordwijk
Kasteel de Haar
Keukenhof
